Available Courses

  • The MMSTLC program is focusing of developing leaders to support science instruction in middle grades. This "course" provides resources and workshop materials for the MMSTLC Cadre I and II Participants, including those for the science and mathematics breakout sessions, role-based sessions, and the general leadership development sessions. We provide materials, discussion topics, and additional resources on a session by session basis to accompany the MMSTLC Workshops from the 2008-9 school year.
  • This course is specifically for the "investigate the State" effort to engage in large scale, collaborative investigations in science.
  • This course provides a universal overview to inquiry issues in science instruction for all teachers. Included are some of the topics addressed during the MMSTLC participant workshops:

    • What is Inquiry?
    • Project-based science units
    • Driving Questions and Unit Structure
    • Student-designed investigations
    • Using Scientific Models
    • Data Collection and Analysis
    • Assessment strategies in science

  • Models are commonly used by scientists to investigate phenomena that they are unable to explore directly. Yet, use of models in classrooms is often either left out, or handled in such a way as to create many misconceptions for students. This set of resources address what role models play in science, what different types of models are and how they might be used to support learning, and some of the considerations of using models as a learning tool.
  • The MMSTLC program is focusing of developing leaders to support mathematics instruction in middle grades. A critical issue for such instruction is the use and facilitation high-level problems and tasks to ensure that students better engage with the content and build a deep conceptual understanding of mathematics. This site provides resources and activities built around the MMSTLC professional development program in mathematics. In this "course", materials and activities are broken down by session (identified by the date of the session).
  • This is the site for resources, artifacts, etc. for the MMSTLC Partners and Product Development Teams.
  • This course is for administrative functions and responsibilities of teams. It contains forms, budgets, action plans, templates, tutorials, and other general information about the requirements for participation in the MMSTLC.

This site is the home of resources and communications for the participants in the Michigan Mathematics and Science Teacher Leadership Collaborative (MMSTLC).
