MMSTLC Leadership Resources
MMSTLC provided a number of leadership resources and content to help develop a new generation of instructional leaders in mathematics and science in Michigan. These resources were intended to be used by our participants to support local leadership development efforts. Additional content and discussions for these topics can also be found on the new Teacher Leader site (available for MMSTLC participants).
Leadership Resources: This section includes materials developed to help participants to understand the nature of teacher leadership, selection of teacher leaders, building local partnerships, and action planning. It is suggested that these would be some of the first materials used in team building and planning.

Needs Assessment: This section leads the team into an assessment of the six factors necessary to see improvement in student achievement. Schools assess their standing on each of the factors using a detailed rubric.

Professional Development: Two levels of professional development are included in this section. Teacher Leaders must attend to their own professional development as teachers and teacher leaders. In addition, their position as a teacher leader requires that they develop the skills and understanding to provide professional development to their colleagues in the school district.

Process / Presentation Skills: These sessions develop knowledge and skills teacher leaders need as they engage colleagues in formal and informal professional development.
Accessing Leadership: Session One helps teachers assess their growth as teacher leaders and provides resources to help them develop their skills and understanding of their role as a teacher leader. Session Two provides a tool to assess their progress and celebrate successes on a project.
Change Management: This session was contracted out to an individual trained to provide participants with an understanding of the change process and strategies for initiating and managing change in an organization.
Grant Writing: All participants were invited to attend a session on grant writing. Topics covered included funding sources, writing strategies, and budget development.
