Investigate the State
MMSTLC announces a statewide initiative to support inquiry learning in science by conducting inquiry-based investigations and collaborating with other classrooms.
The Michigan Mathematics and Science Teacher Leadership Collaborative (MMSTLC) is announcing a new statewide program that will support MMSTLC participants and their colleagues by providing a unique “opportunity” to blend professional learning and instruction. Using a set of inquiry-based learning units, teachers will engage in local studies in one of two topics (air or water quality) using model curriculum resources and common practices. Through the effort, teachers can then share data, ideas, and reflections with other classrooms to allow for statewide investigations of these topics that would not be possible otherwise.
This program is also intended to provide an introductory experience for teachers into the use of inquiry-based learning practices and instruction. Through the use of these tools, and the support of teacher leaders and select Mathematics and Science Centers in the state, teachers will build a greater understanding of these practices, and will learn how to incorporate this learning into their own lessons and units.
