There are a variety of newly announced professional development opportunities for science educators from around the state:

AAPT/PTRA Workshop

Kinematics for The Newer Physics and Physical Science Teachers
Saturday, March 7, 2009 – DeVinci Room, Detroit Marriott Renaissance Hotel
8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

This is an activity based session using PTRA/AAPT materials aimed at the new Michigan State Standards. Handouts (books, paper, CD) will be provided. (Over $100 in materials will be given to attendees as well as the $50 registration fee will be returned, to all attendees that complete the workshop).

TEACHING SCIENCE TO YOUNG CHILDREN: ONLINE, SUMMER, 2009

Oakland University, through the Departments of Teacher Development and Educational Studies (TDES) and Human Development and Child Studies (HDCS) is offering the opportunity to participate in a graduate level, online course developed especially for teachers of young children in grades preK – 2. This class is open to graduate students in both departments as well as certified teachers in Michigan. Students that are not in need of graduate course credit and would rather earn 12 SBCEU credits, may do so through documentation of full participation in, and successful completion of, all course activities in EST0562C. Teaching Science to Young Children, EST562 (4 graduate credits) and EST0562C (12 SBCEUs), will be taught online with three required on-campus meetings (Mondays: July 13, July 27, August 10, 5:00 PM – 8:20 PM).
