The Moodle Drawings, Round Two.
As mentioned at the December workshops, I held a drawing for prizes for those individuals posting to the forums on our site. The only requirement was that you post twice between Dec. 4 and Dec. 19, with an extra name in the hat, so to speak, if you post more than ten times. Only one person did that, and the added odds worked to her favor, as she won the grand prize this month of a $30 gift certificate for Amazon.com, and a copy of “A Short History of Nearly Everything” by Bill Bryson (an excellent history of science and mathematics). Our second and third prize winners (also getting a copy of the book – there was a sale, and $10 gift certificates each, were June Teisan and Yonee Kuiphoff. Congratulations to all, and happy holidays.
On a technical note, I first mentioned that the drawing would be conducted by my daughter assembling nametags and pulling them out of a hat. However, getting her attention this past weekend in the midst of holiday preparations and record snowfall was a bit difficult, and so I conducted the drawing using “Random.org”, and generating a random list from the names of those qualified. I mention this because it was a really nice site for any random selection or generation of numbers – perhaps useful to you in the classroom.
NEXT DRAWING: March 13 Workshop! Yes, we’re doing this again in the spring. And, every post you add or reply to counts in the drawing. Yes, you get your name in the hat each time you have a quality post (something more than “yes” or “asdf”), and on March 13, we’ll draw for more prizes at the workshop in Gaylord. So, start writing!
DISCLAIMER: Just to clarify, these drawings are not funded by our grant that funds this project. These are funded by me personally, to the detriment of my fast-food purchases, Diet Mountain Dew spending, and general random consumerism. So, you’re helping me out twice over by responding to messages, and probably helping the environment as well – keep replying to those posts, and feel free to create discussion threads of your own.
